엄청난 마력 자랑하는 괴물 오토바이들 서초잉크충전
No. 126 | 작성자 : 재생토너 | 작성일 : 2009/04/20 00:04일반적으로 오토바이들은 1개나 2개의 실린더, 많으면 4개의 실린더가 있는 엔진을 사용합니다. 실린더는 연료와 산소가 폭발을 일으키는 곳을 말합니다. 그러니까 흡입-압축-폭발-배기가 이루어지는 실린더가 하나 있다는 이야기입니다.
그림에서 보다시피 당연히 구조상으로 볼 때 압축이 일어나는 시점에서는 회전력이 떨어지게 됩니다. 그런데 실린더를 여러개 붙여놓고 순차적으로 연소가 일어나면 좀 더 고속의, 강력한 힘을 얻을 수 있습니다. 자동차에서 말하는 8기통이니 16기통이니 하는게 바로 실린더 수를 말하는 것이지요.
어쨌든, 그런면에서 오토바이에서 4기통이 넘어가게 되면 상당히 과하다는 느낌을 갖게 됩니다. 오토바이는 차에 비해서 가볍기 때문에 오히려 힘이 넘치면 위험해 질 수 있기 때문입니다. 그런면에서 아래의 오토바이는 가히 괴물 오토바이라고 불러야할 것 같습니다.
7기통의 원형 실린를 장착한 특이한 엔진입니다. 가운데 회전축을 중심으로 7개의 실린더가 돌아가며 장착되어 있습니다. 110마력이라고(참고로 국내 1.6 준중형 자동차가 110~120 정도의 마력으로 알고 있습니다)
2400cc 9기통(9개의 실린더)의 Feuling W3입니다. 무려 150마력을 자랑하는 바이크. 준중형차가 1200kg이 넘는데, 그 힘으로 반의 반도 안되는 무게를 끌고 간다고 생각하면...
Boss Hoss 모터 사이클로 거대한 V8 엔진을 사용한 것이 특징입니다. 6기통엔진부터 V형 배치를 하는데 이는 직렬 배치를 했을 경우 엔진이 너무 길어지기 때문입니다. V8엔진은 8개의 실린더를 V형 배열한 것을 말합니다. 그러면 공간 효율이 좋아집니다. 실린더 배치는 일반적으로 60도나 90도 각도를 이루는데 60도가 효율이 더 좋다고 하는군요. Boss Hoss 모터사이클에는 8300cc V8 엔진이 사용되었습니다. 위의 9기통보다 실린더 수는 적지만 실린더 개당 용량이...
닷지 토마호크는 꽤 유명하지요. 10기통짜리 엔진을 사용한... 차라고 봐도 됩니다. 앞뒤 바퀴가 각 2개씩으로 사실 엄밀히 말해서 바이크라고 보기 힘듭니다. 하지만 어쨋거나 세계에서 가장 빠른 바이크로 알려져있습니다.
다음은 12기통 바이크 2종입니다.
가와사키 2300cc V12엔진을 사용한 바이크와
BMW 자동차에서 떼어낸 5500cc V12 엔진을 장착한 자작 바이크입니다. 잠깐... 5500cc 급 V12 엔진이라면 거의 멕라렌 F1급 엔진이로군요. 스펙상 500마력이 넘을 듯 합니다.
이건 24개! 의 체인톱으로 만들어진 바이크입니다. 총 1900cc 170마력이라고 합니다. 24기통 체인톱 엔진
마지막은 8기통 엔진 6개를 장착해 만든 48기통이 사용된 괴물 바이크입니다. 총 4200cc의 용량을 자랑합니다만 문제가 있다면 무게가 1000kg이 넘는다는 것이겠지요. 넘어지면 어떻게 세울까요? 아니 그보다 엔진은 저렇게 큰데 기름통은 어디에?
저는 그냥 100cc 스쿠터로 만족하렵니다.
7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 24 and 48 Cylinders Monster Motorcycles
Most motorcycles have just 1, 2 or maybe 4 cylinders, but that just isn’t enough when motorcycle engineers start doing crazy stuff.
Here is a collection of some rare monster motorcycles with lots of cylinders.
Let’s start with a motorcycle with a 7 cylinder radial engine. The engine develops 110 hp (82 kw).
Next we have a crazy production motorcycle that you can actually go out and buy. The Feuling W3 has a 2.4 liter engine with 9 cylinders and 150 hp (112 kw).
It would be unfair not to mention the Boss Hoss motorcycles at this time. Both production models from Boss Hoss have a V8 engine and the biggest one of them is a whooping 8.3 liter (the smallest one is just 5.7 liter).
Moving up the list we encounter the Dodge Tomahawk with 10 cylinders. The Dodge Tomahawk is the fastest motorcycle in the world if you accept that it’s not a production model (check out the fastest production motorcycles).
Next we have two 12 cylinder motorcycles. A Kawasaki with a 2.3 liter V12 engine and a home made monster with a 5.5 liter V12 engine from a BMW car.
Second last on the list is the 24 cylinder Dolmette motorcycle. The engine is built from 24 chainsaw engines (!), has a total size of 1.9 liter and develops a total of 170 hp (127 kw).
Finally we have a monster that can take on any other motorcycle. Say hello to the only 48 cylinder motorcycle in the world.
The engine is made from six normal, 8 cylinder engines. It has a total size of 4.2 liter and apparently it weights more than 1,000 kg (2,205 lbs). The 48 cylinder monster has its own website.
Top 5 Fastest Street Legal Motorcycles
Last week I wrote a bit about the fastest motorcycle in the world – the Dodge Tomahawk.
Problem is that the Dodge Tomahawk is a concept model and that it isn’t street legal, so here is a top 5 of the fastest street legal motorcycles in the world.

The All-time Biggest Production Motorcycle in the World
A lot of people think Harley-Davidson motorcycles are big and massive, but they are dwarfed when compared with the really big cruisers from the American company Boss Hoss.
Except for a few models from the seventies, all Harley-Davidson motorcycles have a V2 engine with a displacement between 883 and 1573 ccm (the SX and SXT models from the seventies had one cylinder engines with less than 250 ccm).
That’s nothing compared with the Boss Hoss engines. Boss Hoss motorcycles have Chevrolet V8 engines with a displacement of either 5673 or 8226 ccm. That’s engines that are four times as big as the biggest Harley engines!
It’s not just the engine that is big on Boss Hoss motorcycles. The biggest Boss Hoss motorcycle, BHC-3 502 Big Block, is so big that it is the biggest production motorcycle in the world.
A Boss Hoss BHC-3 502 Big Block weights 595 kg, which makes it more than 200 kg heavier than the biggest Harley (Electra Glide Ultra Classic, 372 kg).
Luckily the engine gives the motorcycle 502 hp, so each hp just needs to drag 1.19 kg forward. That’s a better weight/power ratio than a hyper sport motorcycle like the Suzuki Hayabusa.
The great weight/power ratio gives the biggest production motorcycle in the world a topspeed around 255 km/h (158 mph).
Longest Motorcycle Jump Ever - Trigger Gumm Beats the World Record
One of the most exciting motorcycle sports is long distance jumping and you wouldn’t believe the distances that people have jumped.
In May 2005, Trigger Gumm beat the world record with an awesome 84.6 meters (277.5 feet) ramp gap jump at Crusty Demons Night of Record (Queensland Raceway, Ipswich, Queensland, Australia). He beat his own world record from November 2003 by 21.2 meters (69.5 feet).

The world record Trigger Gumm beat was the ramp gap jump record for 500 cc motorcycles. The distance is measured from the end of the launch ramp to the nearest edge of the nearest mark made by the landing motorcycle.
Some claim that he did the world record jump on a Honda CR 500, while others claim it was done on a modified Honda CR 250 (CR 250 body, frame modified to fit the engine from a CR 500).
